Psychological Assessments

Gain clarity, insight, and direction

A psychological assessment can help clarify a diagnosis, provide insight into emotional and cognitive challenges, and guide effective treatment planning. At ACTion Psychology, assessments are completed by a Clinical Psychologist and are grounded in a careful, individualized evaluation process.

What Is a Psychological Assessment?

A psychological assessment is a comprehensive evaluation used to better understand a person’s mental health, emotional well-being, cognitive functioning, and behavioural patterns.

Assessments may help clarify:
  • Mental health concerns and symptoms
  • Possible diagnoses, such as anxiety, depression, PTSD, ADHD, or other conditions
  • Emotional, behavioural, or cognitive challenges
  • Treatment recommendations and next steps
  • Ability to return to work or school when applicable

The goal of an assessment is not only to provide a diagnosis, but also to offer meaningful insight that can support healing, growth, and informed decision-making.

What’s Involved?

When clients visit us for a psychological assessment in Toronto or virtually across Ontario, the process typically includes:
A Clinical Interview

The interview is simply a detailed conversation with one of our clinical psychologists about your history, concerns, current symptoms, experiences, and goals.

Additional Information Gathering

In some cases, follow-up conversations with family members, partners, or other professionals may be recommended to provide additional context.

Questionnaires & Assessment Tools

You may be asked to complete standardized questionnaires related to mood, stress, personality, attention, behaviour, trauma, or daily functioning.

Report & Feedback Session

Your Ontario psychologist uses all of the findings to rule out medical causes for symptoms, identify patterns, and determine if you meet the diagnostic criteria for certain mental health conditions.

They prepare a comprehensive report that outlines clinical impressions, any relevant diagnoses, and treatment recommendations.

A feedback session is then scheduled to review the results and discuss next steps.

Who Can Benefit From a Psychological Assessment?

Psychological assessments may be helpful for individuals who are:

  • Seeking diagnostic clarification
  • Experiencing ongoing emotional or mental health challenges
  • Navigating workplace or disability-related concerns
  • Looking for treatment recommendations
  • Exploring return-to-work or return-to-school readiness
  • Wanting a deeper understanding of their mental health and functioning
